November 29 to December 20, 2014
1335MABINI proudly presents Issay Rodriguez and Iya Regalario in a group exhibition titled “Refrain” from November 29 to December 20, 2014.
There should be no discord between nature and man, for there is none apart from lack of understanding of the relationship thereof.
A dichotomous line supposed between human society and the physical world “beyond” it through anthropocentric frames of observation – arrived at rationally or through other modes of inquiry – is what artists Issay Rodriquez and Iya Regalario are currently threading, finding balance amidst polarizing connotations concerning subject and object. Though the works are definite in intervention and simulation, working with material and studies such as driftwood and cymatics, the artists nonetheless present part of their practice of letting nature be - not so much to be understood but to be heard, to witness. Such withholding bids heightened awareness on things immediate yet not readily seen.
Issay Rodriguez obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of the Philippines, Diliman and was awarded the Outstanding Thesis Award and Gawad Tanglaw upon graduation in 2013. She also studied as an exchange scholar at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris under the auspices of the French Government. She has exhibited her works in Hanoi, Ho Chi Mihn City, Manila and Paris. Issay Rodriguez currently lives and works in Marikina City, Philippines.
Iya Regalario graduated from the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities in 2008. After several years of working as a Graphic Designer for ADMU, Regalario has fully dedicated her time to her personal art practice, and has been reaping the rewards in the form of successive solo shows, group exhibitions, and involvement in art festivals. Spot.ph has included her in the list of young, up-and-coming artists in the Philippines as well. She recently obtained her Masteral Degree in Communications this 2014.
